Modern Outdoor Wall Sconce Up Down LED IP65

A wide floodlight on a house front flattens everything it touches. Two narrow beams do the opposite. This fixture sends one cone of light up the wall and one down it. The wall texture shows in both. Render, brick and stone all pick up shadow and depth. Repeat the fixture along a facade or up a set of steps and the pattern reads as architecture rather than as security lighting.

What the Up and Down Beams Look Like

The body is open at the top and the bottom. The sides are closed, so no light spills forward.

Each LED throws a narrow triangle onto the wall. The edges of that triangle are clean rather than blurred.

On a textured wall the grazing light picks out every bump. That is why the effect suits render, stone and brick.

The inside of the body is finished in gold. The beams take a slightly warm tone from it as they leave.

The beams are narrow because the openings are narrow. There is no lens and no reflector doing the work. The shape of the body is what makes the pattern, so it looks the same on every unit.

Rated IP65 for Real Weather

IP65 covers dust entirely and water jetted at the fixture from any direction.

That is a step above the usual IP44 splash rating. Driving rain and a garden hose are both within it.

The body is aluminium, which does not rust. It is the right material for a wall that gets wet regularly.

It is not rated for submersion. Do not fit it below a step where water can pool around the base.

Fitted at about head height the two cones meet the wall symmetrically. Fitted low, close to a step, the down cone lands on the ground and the up cone runs a long way up the wall. Both work, but they look very different.

Where to Use It and How to Fit It

Beside a front door, a pair either side of the frame gives a clean symmetrical entrance.

Along a path or up outdoor steps, a run of three or four spaced evenly is the usual arrangement.

It also works indoors on a hallway or a stairwell wall, where the same up and down beams read as a graphic pattern.

The fixture is hardwired and needs a wired outdoor point behind it. It is 3.9 in wide, so it fits a narrow pier beside a door.

The aluminium body will not rust, but it will collect grime on a coastal or roadside wall. A wipe with a damp cloth twice a year keeps the finish even.
