Industrial Pendant Light with a Teardrop Water Glass Shade
This pendant hangs one teardrop shade from a shaped metal cap. The glass is pressed with a dimpled water pattern. That pattern breaks the light into soft pools instead of a flat wash. A filament bulb sits in the middle of it and shows through the glass. The shade is 13.5 in tall and 6.5 in across. It takes a standard E26 or E27 bulb, which is not included. Pick the glass in smoke gray, clear or amber. The metal cap comes in brass or black.

Plain glass hides nothing. You see the bulb, and the bulb is the brightest thing in the room. Textured glass changes that. This shade is pressed with a dimpled water pattern all over its surface. Each dimple bends the light a little differently. The result is a shade that glows across its whole face instead of one hot spot at the centre. You still see the filament, but it reads as warmth rather than glare.
What the Dimpled Water Glass Does
The pattern is pressed into the glass, not printed on it. That means it runs right through the thickness of the shade. Light passing through hits an uneven surface twice, once going in and once coming out. It leaves the shade slightly scattered.
On the wall behind the fixture you get a mottled pattern rather than a hard circle. It is subtle. Nobody will call it a feature light. What it does is take the edge off a bare bulb without hiding the bulb altogether.
The teardrop shape helps too. It is narrow at the top and full at the bottom, so the glass is thickest where the bulb sits. Most of the output leaves through the wide lower half and goes down onto the surface below.
Hanging a 13.5 in Teardrop Shade
The shade is 13.5 in tall and 6.5 in wide. That is tall and narrow for a pendant. It reads well hung on its own over a bedside table or a corner chair. It also lines up well in a row, because the narrow width lets you space three of them closely.
Over a dining table, hang the bottom of the shade about 30 in above the top. Over a bench, go a little higher so it clears your line of sight. The fixture drops from a ceiling canopy, so a sloped ceiling needs a sloped ceiling adapter.
Bulbs, Wiring and the Glass Colors
The socket takes an E26 or E27 bulb. That is the standard screw size in the US. No bulb comes in the box. A clear filament LED suits this shade best, because the texture needs a visible filament to catch. A frosted bulb will work but the pattern goes flat.
Pick a warm bulb near 2400K to 2700K. Anything cooler fights the amber glass. The fixture is hardwired and rated 110V-120V and 220V-240V, so it runs on a US circuit.
The glass comes in smoke gray, clear and amber. Smoke gray reads darkest when the light is off. Clear shows the most of the pressed pattern. Amber warms the light before it leaves the shade. The metal cap is brass or black on all three.
