Vintage Glass Pendant Light with a Ruffled Flower Shade

A flared shade behaves differently from a globe or a dome. Because the rim turns outward rather than tucking under, the light escapes sideways as well as down, and the glass itself lights up from within. That is the whole point of this shape. You are not just lighting the table, you are putting a colored object at eye level and letting it glow.

Where a flower pendant light earns its place

The 11 inch version suits a round dining table, a hall table, or the middle of a small room where it can be seen from every side. Because the shade is shallow, only 5.3 inches deep, it does not block sightlines the way a tall pendant does, so it can hang lower than you might expect over a table.

The 7.5 inch version is a different tool. At that width it works in a pair beside a bed, over a narrow console, or in a row of three above a kitchen island. Its shallower 2.6 inch depth keeps it visually light, which matters when several are in a row and the total mass adds up quickly.

How the tinted glass colors change a room

Purple is the most decorative of the four and behaves like a piece of colored glassware, warm and pink where the light passes through the thin petal edges and deeper toward the center. It sits well against timber, brass and patterned wallpaper, and it will fight a cool grey scheme.

Green is the calmer choice and reads almost neutral once lit. Amber pushes everything toward candlelight. Transparent is the practical option if the pendant is doing real work over a worktop, since none of the light is filtered out before it reaches the surface below.

Cord length, bulb choice and installation

The twisted cord is 59 inches and is shortened at installation rather than in the box, so the same fitting works on a low ceiling or a high one. Over a dining table, aim for roughly 30 to 34 inches between the tabletop and the rim of the shade. Hung as a bedside pendant, take it lower, to around 20 inches above the nightstand, so the light lands on the surface rather than in your eyes.

It takes a standard E27 screw bulb, and an E26 bulb fits the same thread. No bulb is supplied. Because the underside of the shade is open and the glass is tinted rather than opaque, a clear filament lamp is visible from below and from the sides. A frosted or opal bulb is the more comfortable choice if the pendant hangs where people sit.
