Scalloped Ribbed Glass Semi Flush Mount Ceiling Light for Hallways

Semi flush is the compromise fitting and it is usually the right one. A full flush mount sits hard against the ceiling and throws all its light sideways and down, which flattens a room. A pendant hangs low and lights well but needs the headroom. A semi flush drops a few inches, so a little light gets above the shade and lifts the ceiling, while the fixture still stays out of the way.

What the Ribbed Glass Adds

The glass is ribbed from the centre out to the rim, and the rim itself is scalloped rather than cut straight. Lit from inside, each rib picks up the light along its length. From below the shade reads as a set of fine bright lines rather than one even disc.

The scalloped edge does the same thing at the perimeter. It breaks the outline into a wave, so the fixture casts a slightly patterned shadow on the ceiling around it. In a plain white hallway that pattern is most of the reason to choose a textured shade over a smooth one.
