Modern Flush Mount Disc Wall Sconce and Ceiling Light

Most wall lights point their bulb at the wall and hide it behind a shade. This one does the opposite. The bulb sits out in front of a shallow metal dish, in full view. The dish works as a reflector and throws light back across the wall. You get a soft ring of light around the fixture rather than a hard beam. The fixture itself is part of the look.

One Fixture for the Wall or the Ceiling

The back plate is flat and the disc is only 5.9 inches deep. That lets it sit against a wall or against a ceiling without looking wrong either way. On a wall the bulb points out into the room. On a ceiling it points straight down.

That matters when you are buying for a small space. A hallway, a stair landing or a small bathroom may not have room for a light that sticks out. This one adds under six inches. You can also buy a pair and split them between a wall and a ceiling in the same room.

It is hardwired, so it needs a supply in the wall or the ceiling box. There is no plug and no cord. Any standard wall switch will run it, and it works on 110 to 240 volts.

Two Bulb Finishes, Two Kinds of Light

Both options fit the same fixture and both measure 5.9 inches across. The difference is the glass.

The opal white bulb is frosted all over. It glows evenly and you can look straight at it without squinting. This is the softer of the two and suits a bedroom or a hallway.

The electroplated bulb has a mirrored crown on the front. That mirror blocks the direct glare and bounces the light backwards into the metal dish. The dish then spreads it onto the wall. You see a lit ring rather than a lit bulb, which is the better choice over a desk or a bar.

Both take an E26 screw base, so you can swap in any standard bulb later. LED and Edison style bulbs both work.

Colours, Finish and Care

Six body colours are made: nickel, black, white, gold, yellow and red. Nickel and gold are polished metal and mirror the room a little. Black, white, yellow and red are painted.

The bright colours read as a deliberate accent. A red or yellow disc on a plain wall does a job that a black one cannot. The painted colours also hide fingerprints better than the polished ones.

Wipe the disc with a dry soft cloth. The polished nickel and gold show marks the most, so go gently and skip any cream cleaner or scouring pad. Let the bulb cool before you touch it.

The fixture is rated IP20. That means it is for indoor, dry spots only. Keep it out of a shower enclosure and away from direct spray.
