Round Wall Sconce with a Painted Disc and Metal Ball

This sconce is a wide painted disc with a small polished ball set into the middle. The light sits behind the ball and points back at the disc. The colour then glows from the centre outward, brightest near the ball and softer at the rim. The ball itself stays a mirror and picks up the room around it. Three diameters are offered, 11.8 in, 15.7 in and 19.7 in. The disc comes in orange red, light orange, blue or green, with a chrome or bronze centre. The LED is built in.

Most sconces are small and try not to be noticed. This one is a wide coloured circle on your wall and it is meant to be seen. The disc is the size of a dinner plate or larger. A polished ball sits at the middle and hides the light behind it. Switch it on and the colour lifts from the centre out. It works as art on a plain wall, and it happens to light the room as well.

How the Centre Ball Lights the Disc

The LED is hidden behind the polished ball at the centre. Nothing points into the room.

The light throws back onto the face of the disc. The paint picks it up and glows.

That glow is strongest in a ring around the ball and fades toward the rim. The colour reads deeper at the edge.

Because the ball is a mirror, it stays bright even when the light is off. It reflects whatever is in front of it.

The disc is metal and painted flat. It does not glow through, so the colour you see at night is reflected light rather than transmitted light. That keeps it soft rather than lit up like a panel.

Choosing a Colour and a Centre Finish

Four disc colours are offered. Orange red and light orange are warm and read strongest at night.

Blue and green are cooler and quieter. Against a grey or a stone wall they sit back rather than shout.

The centre ball is chrome or bronze. Chrome is a bright silver mirror and gives a hard contrast against the colour.

Bronze is warmer and blends with the orange discs. Against blue or green it reads as a deliberate contrast instead.

The paint finish is matt. On a gloss wall the contrast between the two surfaces is part of the effect, and on a matt wall the disc sits back and reads as a shape.

The 11.8 in disc is the smallest. Run three or four along a stairwell or a corridor as a set.

The 15.7 in disc suits a bedside wall or the space above a console table. It is large enough to hold a wall on its own.

The 19.7 in disc is a feature piece. Give it a clear wall with nothing else on it.

The LED is built in and is not dimmable. Wire it to a plain switch rather than a dimmer circuit.

Because the largest disc is 19.7 in across it needs a clear span of wall. Hung too close to a door frame or a corner it looks crowded. Measure the wall before choosing the size.
