A table lamp is usually decided by where the socket is. The LED is integrated and rated for 50,000 hours, which means there is no bulb to buy and none to replace. It also means the lamp is a sealed unit: when the LED eventually goes, the lamp goes with it. At six hours a day the rating works out to more than twenty years, so this is a theoretical concern rather than a practical one, but it is the trade-off you make for a fixture with no visible bulb.

The Four Gloss Finishes and Where They Sit

All four finishes are high gloss, so the shade behaves like a small mirror and picks up the colours around it. Gold and rose gold warm everything near them and suit walnut, brass and dark painted walls. Chrome stays neutral and reflects the room straight back, which reads cleaner in a white or grey scheme. Black gloss is the quietest of the four until it catches the light, and then it is the most dramatic.

Worth knowing before you choose: a gloss finish shows fingerprints, and this is a lamp you are meant to pick up and move. Chrome and black show marks most readily, gold and rose gold least. A soft dry cloth deals with it, but if the lamp is going somewhere it will be handled constantly, the warmer finishes are the more forgiving pair.
