Nordic Wall Sconce with a Wood Mount and Cone Shade

A wall light fixed flat to the plaster mostly lights the plaster. This one does not. A curved arm lifts the cone shade away from the wall and turns it forward, so the beam lands on a bed, a book or a desk. The mount is a round disc of natural wood, which keeps the fixture warm against a plain wall. It is a simple shape, and every part of it is doing something.

Why the Curved Arm Changes the Light

The arm rises from the wood disc, bends over and drops. The shade ends up in front of the backplate rather than beside it.

Light then falls forward into the room. Over a bed it lands on the pillow and the page, not on the wall behind your head.

The cone is painted on both faces, so nothing escapes through the sides. The pool below stays clean edged.

That makes it usable as a reading light rather than only as an accent. One either side of a bed covers both readers.

The arm is slim and the shade is small. Together they take up very little visual space, which is why this suits a narrow wall beside a bed or a doorway.

The Wood Backplate

The disc is natural wood with the grain showing. It is the warmest part of the fixture.

Set against a painted metal arm and shade, the wood keeps the whole thing from reading as an industrial fitting.

The tone is pale and neutral. It works against white, grey and sage walls and sits well with oak or birch furniture.

The disc is round and covers a standard wall box, so there is no exposed fitting to tidy up afterwards.

The wood disc and the painted shade are separate colours, not a matched set. That contrast is the point. A fixture in one colour would read flatter against a plain wall.

Colours, Bulbs and Fitting

Three shade colours are offered. Black gives the strongest outline against a pale wall.

White is the quietest and almost disappears. Grey sits between the two and suits a cooler room.

The socket takes an E27 bulb, not included. A warm white bulb suits the wood mount best.

The fixture is 6 in wide and 9 in high and is hardwired to a wall box. Mounted about 24 in above a mattress it sits at a good reading height.

Wipe the shade with a dry cloth. The paint is matt, so a damp cloth can leave a mark that shows under the light. The wood needs nothing beyond dusting.
