Rechargeable Motion Sensor Wall Sconce with a Wood Cap

Most wall lights need a wired point. This one does not. It holds to the wall on an adhesive base, and the light itself clips on with a magnet. So you can put it in a hallway, a wardrobe or a stairwell without calling an electrician. It also means you can take it with you. Lift it off the wall and it becomes a torch.

How the Motion Sensor Works on This Rechargeable Wall Sconce

The sensor watches for movement in front of it. It picks you up from about 13 ft away.

When it sees you, the light comes on. When the room goes still again, it switches back off. You never touch a switch.

That suits a hallway or a landing at night. The light is there when you walk through and gone once you have passed.

The sensor also reads the light level. In a bright room it stays off, so you are not running a lamp at midday.

It faces forward, not sideways. Mount it where you will walk towards it rather than past it, and it catches you sooner.

Because it only runs when something moves, a charge stretches a long way. Four to six months is normal in sensor mode.

Using It Off the Wall as a Portable Light

The tube pulls straight off the round mount. There is nothing to unscrew.

In your hand it works as a torch. Useful for a cupboard, a loft or a power cut.

It also stands upright on a flat surface. On a desk or a bedside table it reads as a small lamp.

There is a small button on the body for switching modes by hand when it is off the wall.

The magnet is strong enough to hold the light through a knock, but it releases with a straight pull.

Run it that way and the battery gives about eight hours of continuous light. Put it back on the mount and it starts sensing again.

Charging, Fitting and Choosing a Wood Tone

Charging is over a USB cable, which is in the box. There is no adaptor to hunt for.

The mount sticks on with an adhesive base. Pick a clean, flat, dry surface and press it on firmly.

The light is small at 7.1 in long, and the round mount is 2.4 in across. It weighs 0.8 lb, so the adhesive carries it easily.

Two wood tones are offered, a dark walnut and a lighter oak. Both use the same frosted tube.

Charging takes a few hours from flat. A small indicator shows when it is done.

You can buy one, or a set of two, three or four. Sets are worth it if you are lighting a whole hallway.
