Vintage Brass Wall Sconce with Adjustable Ribbed Glass Shade

A sconce this size is an accent, not a room light. It puts a warm pool on the wall beside whatever it is lighting. The ribbed glass is what makes it work. Smooth glass would show the filament as one hot spot. The fluting spreads it into fine vertical lines instead, which is why it reads as soft from across the room.

The Ribbed Glass and the Brass Finish

The shade is clear glass with vertical fluting. It tapers from a narrow top to a wider rim. Light passes straight through it, so the bulb you choose matters.

A warm bulb suits the brass tone. A clear filament bulb shows through the ribs and is part of the look. A frosted bulb softens it further if the glare bothers you.

The metal is brass-toned rather than solid brass. It is a warm yellow finish, not an aged or antiqued one, so it sits better with modern hardware than with dark patina.

A knurled brass collar sits above the glass and holds the shade. A small thumbscrew on the arm locks the angle once you have set it.

Fitting It

This sconce is hardwired. There is no plug and no cord, so it needs a wall box behind the backplate. The backplate is round and covers a standard box.

It takes one standard E26 screw bulb and the bulb is not included. The supplier rates it for 110 V to 120 V, which is US mains.

Both joints move, so you set the angle after it is on the wall. Loosen the thumbscrew, turn the shade to where you want it, then tighten it again.

Neither the supplier nor the source listing states a damp or wet rating. Two of the gallery photos show it above a bathroom basin. Treat those as styling. Keep it out of a wet area until that rating is confirmed.
