Minimalist Wood Cube Wall Sconce Up Down Light

This is about as simple as a wall light gets. A wood grain cube, open top and bottom, with the light hidden inside. No shade, no arm, no visible fitting. Switched off it reads as a small block on the wall. Switched on it throws two soft cones, one up and one down. The wood tone keeps it warm where a plain white cube would look clinical. It suits a hallway, a bedside or a stair landing.

The cube has no top and no bottom. The four sides are solid.

Light leaves through the two open faces only. It lands on the wall as a cone above and a cone below.

Nothing points into the room, so the fixture never glares. You can walk past it at eye level without noticing the source.

Mounted low near a floor it works as a night light on a landing. Mounted at head height it lights a whole section of wall.

There is nothing on the outside of the cube. No switch, no visible screw, no shade rim. It is a plain block, and everything that makes it work is inside it.

The Faux Wood Finish

The finish carries a wood grain. It gives the cube warmth that a painted metal box would not have.

Because it is a finish rather than solid timber, it stays stable and needs no oiling or care.

The tone is a mid brown. It sits well against white, cream and pale green walls, and against oak furniture.

Once the light is on, the glow washes over the finish above and below. The grain shows more clearly then than it does by day.

Where to Fit It and How

A single cube beside a bed works as a soft night light. It puts light on the wall without lighting the whole room.

In a hallway, run three or four in a line at the same height. Spaced evenly, the cones overlap into a continuous pattern.

Pairs either side of a doorway or a mirror give a clean symmetrical result. The cube is small at 3.9 in, so it does not crowd a frame.

The fixture is hardwired to a wall box. There is no plug and no switch on the body, so it runs from your wall switch.

Mounted in a corner it lights two walls at once, since both cones spread as they travel. That is a useful trick in a small landing where a single fixture has to do all the work.
