Industrial Glass Pendant Light Black Metal Cap for Kitchen Islands

A bare glass pendant has one weakness. Look up at it from a low chair and you get the bulb straight in the eye. Capping the top of the shade in metal fixes that without giving up the glass. The cap covers the socket and the brightest part of the bulb. What you see from below is the lower half of the shade, lit from inside. It is a small change and it makes the fixture much easier to sit under.

Four Shapes and What Each One Suits

The cylinder is 5 in wide and 13 in tall. It is the narrow one, made for hanging in a row over a bench where floor space is tight. The lantern is 7 in wide and 12 in tall, a squarer version of the same idea.

The globe is 8 in wide and 9 in high and is the safe general choice. The drum is the widest at 10 in across and only 8.5 in deep, which spreads light further sideways. Over a dining table the drum covers the most ground. In a stairwell or a hallway the cylinder looks better.

All four use the same black cap and the same fitting above it. That is why a row of mixed shapes still reads as one set rather than a jumble. If you like the idea, hanging a cylinder next to a drum next to a globe is a common way to use them.

Clear Glass or Amber Glass

Clear glass keeps the light neutral. Whatever colour the bulb is, that is what lands on the room. It is the right pick over a kitchen bench where you want to see food properly.

Amber glass warms everything it touches. The light comes out closer to candlelight and the shade glows a deep honey colour when lit. It looks better in a bar, a dining room or a lounge than it does over a work surface. The two are the same shades in the same sizes, so the choice is only about the light.

Bulbs and Fitting

The socket is E26 or E27, the standard screw size, and no bulb is supplied. Because the cap covers the top of the bulb, a plain LED works fine here. You do not need a decorative filament lamp unless you want one.

Hang the bottom of the shade 30 to 36 in above a bench or table. Over an island, two or three in a row is the usual arrangement. The fixture is rated for 110V-120V as well as 220V-240V, so it runs on a US 120V circuit. It weighs about 4.2 lb, which is normal for a glass pendant and fine on a standard ceiling box.
