Modern Glass Globe Wall Sconce Milk and Ripple Glass

The two glass options do different jobs. Milk glass is opaque and spreads a soft, even wash. It is the safer pick for a bedside or a hallway you walk through at night. Ripple glass is clear and moulded with a wavy surface. Lit, it scatters bright points across the wall behind it. That looks striking in a living room. Both use the same arm and the same 5.9 in globe.

Choosing Between Milk Glass and Ripple Glass

Milk glass hides the lamp completely. You see a soft white ball and nothing else.

It is the easier one to live with. Nothing glares when you walk past it at night.

Ripple glass is clear. The moulded surface bends the light into a fan of bright spots.

Those spots land on the wall around the fixture. In a dark room that pattern is the point.

Pick milk glass for reading or for a hallway you use often.

Pick ripple glass where you want the wall itself to do something.

Both options use the same 5.9 in globe, so the size never changes.

Only the surface of the glass is different between them.

In a room with a lot going on already, milk glass is the calmer choice.

On a plain wall, ripple glass gives you something to look at.

Where This Size Fits

The sconce is 7.1 in tall and 5.9 in wide. The globe is the widest part.

That is small. It does not crowd a narrow hallway or a bedside wall.

A pair either side of a bed works well at this scale. Two larger fixtures would fight.

It also suits the wall beside a mirror, or a stretch of wall above a console.

The fixture weighs 2.2 lb, so a standard wall fixing carries it easily.

The arm holds the globe out and slightly above the backplate.

That lifts the light clear of the wall rather than pressing it flat.

Allow a little clearance above it if you are mounting under a shelf.

In a hallway, space a run of them evenly rather than clustering them.

Finish and Fitting

The arm and round backplate come in gold or black.

Gold warms up a dark wall. Black reads cleaner against pale plaster.

The fixture is wall mounted and takes a single lamp.

It fits over a standard wall box, like any hardwired sconce.

Both finishes use the same glass options, so you can mix them across one room.

The backplate is round and small, so it covers a standard wall box neatly.

Keep the lamp warm. A cold white lamp fights both glass options.

With ripple glass in particular, a warm lamp makes the wall pattern glow gold.

The two finishes and two glass types give four combinations in total.
