Concrete Pendant Light Cast in Cement in Three Shapes

The size options on this pendant change the shape as well as the width. That matters more than it sounds. A 6.5 in barn and a 10.5 in dome do not just differ in scale, they throw light differently. The barn narrows at the base and keeps the beam tight. The dome flares out and spreads it wide. Read the shape before you pick the size, because the two are the same choice here.

Three Cement Shade Shapes Compared

The barn shade is 6.5 in wide and 6 in high. It curves in toward the opening, so the light leaves in a fairly narrow cone. It suits a bedside table or a run of small pendants.

The cylinder is 8.5 in wide and 9 in high, with straight sides and a stepped top. It is the tallest of the three. The straight walls send light almost straight down in a defined circle.

The dome is 10.5 in wide and 6 in high. It is the widest and shallowest, so it spreads light over the largest area. One dome covers more bench than two barns would.

Living With a Cast Cement Shade

Cement is matt and heavy. It absorbs light instead of bouncing it, so the outside of the shade stays quiet even with a bright bulb inside.

Each shade is cast, so the surface carries a fine grain and small variations. Two shades of the same size will not be identical. That is how the material behaves rather than a fault.

The inner surface is finished in a warm tone. It takes the edge off the light before it leaves the shade, which keeps a bare bulb from feeling harsh underneath.

Hanging Height and Wiring

The cord comes in 39 in or 59 in depending on the shade, and both shorten at the canopy. Over a dining table, leave about 30 in between the table top and the bottom of the shade.

Over a kitchen island, hang a little higher at around 36 in so the shade clears your sight line. Space a row of them roughly 24 to 30 in apart.

The fixture is hardwired to a ceiling canopy and takes a standard E26 or E27 bulb. No bulb is included. It runs on 110V-120V and on 220V-240V.

The cord length changes with the shade. The smaller shades come on a 39 in cord and the larger ones on 59 in. Both shorten at the canopy, so you can always take height out. You cannot add it, which is worth checking against a high ceiling before you order.
