A wide dome of textured clear glass hung open at the bottom from a slim arm and a round backplate. The seeded texture in the glass catches the filament and scatters it, so the shade reads as a field of small highlights rather than a plain clear cover. Leaving the bottom open puts light straight down onto a basin or a worktop and makes changing a bulb a two second job. One, two and three light versions come in brass, black and polished nickel, rated for damp locations.

An open bottomed shade is a deliberate choice rather than a saving. Enclosing a bulb in glass on all sides softens the light but also traps heat, dulls the output and collects dust and insects that can only be cleaned by dismantling the fixture. Leaving the underside open avoids all of that and sends the full output downward, which is what a task position actually needs.

Seeded Glass and the Bulb Behind It

The glass carries a seeded texture, small bubbles and irregularities set into the material rather than printed on it. Light passing through picks up each one, so the dome reads as a scattering of highlights instead of a flat transparent shell. The texture is in the glass itself, so it will not wear off with cleaning.

Because the shade is clear rather than opaque, the bulb is part of the design. A filament style LED is the right choice; a plain frosted globe looks unfinished behind glass this transparent. Bulbs are not included, and the fixture takes an E12 base up to 25W per shade. That wattage cap is low enough that an LED is effectively the only sensible option for a bright result.

Choosing Between One, Two and Three Lights

The single light is 8 inches wide and 10 inches high, deep enough to read as a proper dome rather than a small shade. Used in pairs either side of a mirror it gives even light across the face.

The two light spans 17.7 inches and the three light 27.5 inches, both on a horizontal bar. These mount above a mirror or along a run of cabinetry, and the 27.5 inch version is wide enough to serve a double vanity or a kitchen sink window on its own. All three share the same 8 inch dome, so the shades stay consistent in scale however many are specified.

Finish and Damp Location Rating

Brass, black and polished nickel are all offered. Brass warms the light and suits the timber and painted interiors shown here. Black frames the glass more sharply, and polished nickel is the most reflective, picking up the surroundings rather than adding a colour of its own.
