Linen has a slightly looser, more open weave; a wool blend is typically denser and will pass marginally less light through the shade.

Fabric shades collect dust in a way glass does not. A soft brush or a vacuum on a low setting with an upholstery head keeps the surface clean without pulling at the weave. Avoid anything wet, which will mark natural linen.

Wiring And Bulb Requirements

The sconce is hardwired and takes an E12 candelabra base bulb rated to 25 watts. That is a low ceiling, so check the rating of any bulb you already have rather than assuming a standard 40 watt candelabra will fit the specification. No bulb is included.

There is no switch on the fixture, so it runs from a wall switch on the circuit. Because the shade conceals the bulb entirely, there is nothing to gain from a decorative filament bulb. A warm white LED candelabra at around 2700 kelvin will suit the fabric and run cool inside a small enclosed shade, which matters more with fabric than it does with glass.

The supplier lists the fixture for hallways, bedrooms and entryways, and the shallow projection is what makes those work. A pair either side of a bed sits at a natural reading height without intruding into the walkway, and a run of them along a corridor gives a softer result than downlights in the ceiling. Because the shade throws light up the wall as well as down, the fitting lifts a low or dark hallway more than its 25 watt ceiling suggests it should.
