Pleated Ceramic Pendant Light Brass Fitting White Shade

Pleating a shade does two things at once. It stiffens the material, which is why the form has survived from fabric shades into ceramic ones, and it turns a plain cone into a surface of alternating light and shadow. On a white ceramic shade under a brass fitting, that shadow pattern is most of what you notice, and it is what stops a small pendant looking like a plain white bowl.

Deep Pleats, a Flared Rim and the Shape of the Light

The shade narrows at the neck where it meets the brass fitting and flares out to the rim, with the pleats deepening as they widen. That flare matters for the light: a straight-sided shade drops a narrow column, while a flared one spreads the beam outward as it falls and covers a wider circle at bench height.

The ceramic is opaque, so all of the light leaves through the open bottom and none passes through the shade itself. What you see from the side is the outside of the pleats, lit by whatever bounces back up from the surface below. That gives the shade a soft underglow at the rim while the top stays in shadow, which is a large part of why the fixture reads as warm rather than stark.

Brass is a warm yellow metal and white ceramic is a cool neutral, and putting them together gives a fixture that is neither purely modern nor purely traditional. The brass sits at the top where the eye reaches it last, so the shade stays the dominant element and the metal reads as a detail.

The twisted fabric cord continues the same idea. A bare plastic flex would pull the fixture toward the utilitarian; a braided cord makes the drop part of the design rather than just the means of hanging it. In a kitchen with brass tapware or handles, the pendant picks up an existing note in the room instead of introducing a new one.

One Pendant, a Pair or a Row

At 6.7 inches across this is a small pendant, and scale decides how it should be used. A single one suits a bedside, a corner, or a spot over a small side table where a larger fixture would be overbearing.

Over an island or a longer table, a row of two or three spaced evenly works better than one in the middle, because a shade this size will not cover the length on its own. The set of two is the usual starting point for that. Keep the spacing and the drop height consistent across the row; with small pendants, an uneven line is much more noticeable than it is with large ones. The fixture is hardwired and suits flat, sloped or vaulted ceilings.
