The choice between a rod and a cable is not a detail. A cable lets a pendant hang wherever gravity and a draught put it, and a row of them never quite lines up. A rigid rod fixes the globe in one place and keeps every drop parallel. In a row over an island that is the difference between a considered installation and a set of lights that look slightly off.

Why the Rigid Stem Changes How This Hangs

A rod holds the globe at a fixed distance and a fixed angle from the ceiling. It will not swing when a door opens or a range hood runs, and it will not slowly rotate so the seam or the fitting ends up facing the wrong way. Over a kitchen bench, where there is real air movement, that stability is practical rather than cosmetic.

It also means the drop is decided at the point of order, not adjusted afterward. The three lengths are 39.4, 59 and 78.7 inches, measured from the ceiling. Standard ceilings usually take the shortest; the longer rods are for raised, double-height or mezzanine situations. Measure the ceiling height and subtract the clearance you want above the bench before choosing, because unlike a cable this cannot be shortened on site.

Globe Size, from a Row of Small to a Single Large

The globe range spans more than three times in diameter, and the two ends are used quite differently. The 3.6 and 3.9 inch globes are small enough to line up in a row of four or five along an island, each one a discrete point of light.

From 7.9 inches upward a single globe carries a table or a bench on its own. The larger spheres also put out a wider, softer pool, since the emitting surface itself is bigger. A common approach is to mix sizes at different rod lengths in a group, which works because the rods keep the arrangement rigid and deliberate rather than letting it drift.

Gold or Black, and the Opal Glass

The gold finish makes the stem part of the fixture, a warm vertical line that catches light along its length and connects visually to brass tapware and hardware. The black finish does the opposite: against a pale ceiling the rod recedes to a thin dark line and the globe appears to float, which is the cleaner and more graphic of the two.

The glass is opal rather than clear in both cases, so the bulb is never visible and the sphere lights evenly all over. That is what allows the fixture to hang at eye level over a bench without glare. Note that although this pendant suits kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms and bars, no IP rating is specified, so it should be kept to dry indoor locations.
