Wood Track Lighting with Multiple Spotlight Heads
Track lighting built on a solid timber beam rather than the usual aluminium extrusion, with cylindrical heads spaced along it that rotate to aim wherever the room needs light. The wood does the job the metal normally does, which softens a fitting that would otherwise read as commercial. Each head takes a standard E27 bulb, so output and colour are yours to choose and easy to change later. It mounts on a ceiling or a wall, in natural wood or walnut, with one to five heads.

Track lighting earned its reputation in galleries and shops, and it earned a matching reputation for looking like a shop when it turns up in a house. Building the same idea on a timber beam changes that completely. The function is identical - several aimable heads on one supply - but the material reads as furniture rather than infrastructure, which is what makes it usable over a dining table.
Choosing How Many Spotlight Heads You Need
One head is a single accent, useful over a reading chair or aimed at one picture. Two and three head bars suit a hallway, a kitchen run or a small living area where you want a few separate pools rather than general light. Five heads at 47.2 inches is a serious fitting that can light most of a room on its own.
The temptation is always to buy more heads than needed on the basis that more light is better. It usually is not. A five head bar aimed straight down in a small room produces five hot spots on the floor and nothing else. Fewer heads aimed at walls and objects give a room far more depth than more heads pointed at nothing in particular.
Aiming Rotating Heads Around a Room
The value of a rotating head is that it lets you light surfaces rather than air. A beam aimed at a bookcase, a stone wall or a run of cabinetry bounces back and lifts the whole room. A beam aimed at empty floor lights only the floor and leaves everything at eye level dark, which is why so many rooms feel gloomy despite having plenty of fittings.
Vary the distances too. If every head is aimed at the same wall the effect is flat. Sending one to a far corner, one to a picture and one down over a bench builds layers, and the eye reads that as a considered room. Heads can be re-aimed at any time, so it is worth experimenting once everything is installed.
E27 Bulbs, Dimming and Mounting Position
Using a standard E27 socket rather than an integrated LED is the most practical decision in this fitting. You choose the wattage, beam angle and colour temperature, you can change your mind later, and when a bulb eventually fails you replace a bulb rather than the whole bar. Exposed Edison bulbs also suit the timber if you want the source visible.
It works with a standard wall switch, and with a Triac dimmer if the bulbs you fit are dimmable - that is a property of the bulb, not the fitting, so check the box. The bar mounts on a ceiling or a wall, which makes a vertical run beside a stairwell or above a workbench possible. It is IP20 rated, so indoor positions only.
