Retro Copper and Smoke Glass Semi Flush Ceiling Light

It clears your head, it still reads as a proper light rather than a fixture, and the gap between shade and plaster puts a soft halo on the ceiling that makes a small room feel taller.

Choosing between the two heights

Both versions are 9.8 inches across, so the choice is purely about depth. The 6.7 inch version sits closer to the ceiling and is the safer pick in a hallway, a landing or anywhere a door swings nearby.

The 11.4 inch version drops further and gives the glass more presence, which suits a bedroom or a living room where you want the fitting to register as an object. On a standard eight foot ceiling either works. Below that, take the shorter one. Worth measuring the drop against any door that opens beneath it, since a semi flush fitting in a tight hallway is the one place people regularly get the clearance wrong and only notice after the electrician has gone.

How smoke glass and copper work together

The glass is tinted rather than clear, so the bulb inside is softened into a warm glow instead of showing as a hard bright point. That matters on a semi flush fitting, because you often look at it from a low angle as you walk underneath.

The copper-finish frame is the other half of the effect. Warm metal against smoked glass is a deliberately retro pairing and it sits well with timber, brass tapware and darker paint colors. In a room that is entirely white and chrome it will read as the one warm object, which can be exactly what a plain hallway needs. The glass tint also hides dust better than clear glass, which is a small practical advantage on a ceiling fitting nobody wants to take down twice a year.

Bulb choice and where it can go

It takes a single E27 or E26 screw bulb and none is supplied, which is a genuine advantage on a fitting like this. You set the brightness and the color temperature for the room, and a warm 2700K lamp will complement the tinted glass far better than a cool white one.
