Modern Outdoor LED Wall Light with Slim Black Aluminum Bar

A linear wall light does a different job from a lantern. Rather than marking a point on the wall it spreads light along it, which flattens the shadows around a doorway and makes a facade read as a single surface after dark. That is why this shape has largely replaced the traditional coach lamp on contemporary houses, and why the length you choose matters more than the wattage does.

Choosing a Length for the Opening

Four lengths are offered: 7.9, 11.8, 19.7 and 31.5 inches. The rule of thumb that works on the installations shown here is to match the fixture to the width of what it sits above. A standard entry door takes the 19.7 inch bar comfortably, while the shorter sizes suit a narrow pier or a run of repeated lights along a corridor wall.

Going too short is the more common mistake. A 7.9 inch fixture above a wide double door reads as an afterthought and concentrates its output into a small pool, where a longer bar spreads the same light across the whole opening and looks deliberate.

IP65, Die-Cast Aluminium and Outdoor Life

IP65 covers dust ingress and low pressure water jets from any direction, which is the rating that matters for a wall fixture exposed to driven rain. It is not a submersion rating and does not need to be. What it does mean is that the diffuser seal and the gland where the cable enters are both closed against weather.

The die-cast aluminium body carries heat away from the LED, which is the main determinant of how long an integrated fixture lasts. At 1.1 pounds it is light enough to mount on render or timber cladding without special fixings, and the matte black finish hides water spotting between cleans.

Colour Temperature and Installation

Three colour temperatures are available. Warm white is the safer choice on brick, timber and stone, where a cooler light tends to make the material look grey. Neutral and cool white hold up better against pale render and glass, and are the more common pick on the contemporary facades shown here.

The fixture is hardwired rather than plugged in and accepts 110 to 265 volts, so it suits the 120 volt supply used here without a converter. It mounts directly to the wall surface, and multi packs are available where a repeated run along a path or corridor is planned, which keeps the finish and the colour temperature consistent across every fixture in the scheme.
