Iron and Wood Farmhouse Pendant Light with an Open Cage

An open cage fitting is a different proposition from a shaded one. There is no diffuser, so the bulb you choose is the light you get, and it will be visible from every seat in the room. That sounds like a drawback and is actually the point. A caged pendant is meant to frame a filament lamp the way a picture frame holds a print, and it lights a whole room rather than one table.

Single pendant or the four light bar

The single version is 9.8 inches square and works where you want one clear point of light. Over a bedside table, at the end of a hallway, or hung as a row of two or three above a bench, it keeps its scale under control.

The four light bar is 35.4 inches wide and is a different piece of furniture altogether. It suits a dining table of about six feet or a kitchen island, where four separate sources spread along the length instead of pooling in the middle. It also means one ceiling point and one wiring run, which is simpler than hanging four pendants and trying to line them up.

Where a farmhouse chandelier suits the room

This style leans on contrast. Matte black iron against warm timber is the whole idea, so it sits naturally in a room that already has exposed beams, shiplap, reclaimed wood or stone. In a room with none of those it can look like a costume rather than a fitting.

The all-black option is worth considering if your kitchen has black window frames or dark hardware and you do not want a second timber tone competing with the cabinetry. The black and wood version is the warmer of the two and reads as softer at a distance.

Choosing bulbs for an exposed fitting

Bulbs are not included and they matter more here than on almost any other fixture, because there is nothing to hide behind. A vintage-style LED filament lamp in a teardrop or globe shape is the intended partner, and a warm 2200K to 2700K lamp gives the amber glow the style depends on. A plain white bulb will make the whole thing look unfinished.

Keep the wattage modest. With no shade to soften the output, a bright lamp at eye level is uncomfortable across a dining table, and a low-output filament LED usually looks better than a brighter one. The fitting is hardwired, so a permanent install needs an electrician. It arrives needing basic assembly and ceiling mounting, and both the iron and the wood clean with a soft dry cloth.
