The finish is black throughout, including the ceiling plate. Against a white ceiling that gives a hard, deliberate outline.

It suits an entryway, a kitchen, a hallway or an office. In a bedroom it works best away from the bed, since the bulb is exposed.

The bulb is not included. Choose one you are happy to look at, since the cage hides nothing.

A warm white bulb suits the black frame. A cool bulb makes the cage read grey rather than black.

Wipe the bars with a dry cloth now and then. An open cage collects dust faster than a closed shade does.
