Hand Painted Ceramic Pendant Light Copper Socket

Hand painting is the point and also the caveat. The brushwork on each shade is done individually, so the pattern will not line up exactly with the photograph. Small differences in the spacing and the weight of the line are normal. The shades are a tapered coolie shape and open at the bottom, so the light falls down onto whatever is below. The copper socket above carries the switch.

Seven Painted Patterns and How They Differ

Five of the seven are painted in blue on a pale ground.

There are daisies, leaves, spots, fine stripes and a broader indigo stripe.

One is a terracotta pattern with a warmer, earthier palette.

One is a plain ivory shade with a scalloped edge and no painting at all.

The scalloped one is also the largest, at 9.6 in across against 7.1 in for the rest.

Check the width on the pattern you pick. They are not all the same size.

The painting sits on the outside of the shade, under the glaze.

That protects it, so the pattern will not wear off with cleaning.

Small variations in the brushwork are the point of a hand painted piece.

Two shades of the same pattern hung side by side will differ slightly.

The Copper Socket and Knob Switch

The socket is solid copper and sits above the shade where the wire enters.

A small knob on the side switches the light on and off at the fixture.

That is useful over a bench or a bedside where no wall switch is close.

Copper warms with age. It will darken over time rather than stay bright.

The wire is braided fabric in a matching brown and runs to 200 cm.

The knob switch is on the socket body, just above the shade.

It is within reach if the pendant hangs at bench height.

Over a high ceiling it is less useful, so plan for a wall switch too.

Copper picks up the warm light and glows alongside the shade.

Light, Bulb and Where to Hang It

The shade is opaque ceramic, so all the light leaves through the open bottom.

That gives a defined pool below rather than a general glow.

An E27 4 W LED bulb is included and the maximum rating is 60 W.

Over a kitchen island or a dining table is the natural place for a downward shade.

A row of three in mixed patterns is a common way to buy these.

The wire adjusts, so the drop height is set when you hang it.

Hang it 28 to 32 in above a bench so the pool covers the working area.

Over a dining table, hang it high enough to see across.

Because the shade is opaque, the room around it stays dim.

Pair it with ambient light rather than relying on it alone.

The braided wire can be shortened at the canopy if 200 cm is too long.
