Frosted Colored Glass Wall Sconce with a Wrought Iron Frame

Frosting is what makes colored glass work on a wall rather than a ceiling. Clear colored glass at eye level shows the filament as a hard bright point and the color only appears where the light passes through. Frosted glass scatters it inside the shade, so the whole surface takes on the color and the sconce reads as a lit object rather than a bulb in a holder.

Choosing among the five glass colors

White and beige are the neutral options and behave like a plain sconce with a little warmth. They suit a hallway or a bedroom where the fitting should not draw attention, and they give the most light because the glass filters least.

Brown, green and burgundy are the decorative choices and change the room noticeably. Burgundy and brown warm everything and sit well against timber panelling or terracotta. Green is cooler and works against plaster and stone. All three cut the output somewhat, so allow for that if the sconce is the only light in a small space.

Three color modes from a normal switch

The three-color version changes between warm, neutral and white light using the wall switch you already have, by switching off and on again. That is genuinely useful in a bedroom or a hallway, because it needs no dimmer module, no new wiring and no remote to lose.

Its limitation is worth knowing too. It changes color temperature, not brightness, so it is not a dimmer. If you want to take the light down low in the evening, you need a dimmable bulb and a compatible switch instead, and this fitting comes with its LED already fitted.

Projection, coverage and mounting

At 3.94 inches of projection this sits close enough to the wall to work in a corridor without being something people walk into. Width matters more here than height, since at 9.84 inches across it needs a reasonable stretch of clear wall either side rather than being squeezed beside a door frame. Height off the floor is the other decision. Around 5 to 5.5 feet suits a hallway, while beside a bed you want it lower, closer to 4 feet, so the light falls onto the page rather than onto the top of your head.

The quoted coverage of 30 to 54 square feet is accent lighting for a small area rather than general room lighting. A pair either side of a bed, or several along a hallway, is how the fitting is designed to be used. It is hardwired to a standard backplate, so installation needs an electrician, and the LED is supplied with the light.
