Reach is the whole point of this one. The arm folds at the wall and again at the shade, and it comes in four lengths. The shortest reaches about a foot. Fitting One Beside a Bed

Put the backplate about 30 in above the mattress and roughly in line with the edge of the bed. From there the arm does the rest. Folded back it sits close to the wall and takes up almost no space above a side table.
