Two layers of glass do something a single shade cannot. The inner element takes the hard edge off the bulb, and the outer one spreads what is left across a wider surface. You end up with a lamp that is bright enough to be useful and soft enough to sit beside on a bedside table without squinting at it, which is a harder balance than it sounds.

Choosing among the five colors

White is the neutral option and lets the shape carry the lamp. It suits a desk or an office where a strong color would be distracting, and it disappears against pale walls.

Yellow and orange are the warmest and read as genuinely retro, especially against timber. Pink is softer and works well in a bedroom. Red is the boldest of the five and needs a calm background, since a saturated glass lamp on a busy surface competes with everything around it. Color also changes how much light escapes. The paler shades pass more of it into the room, while red and orange hold more inside the glass, so the deeper colors read as moodier at the same wattage.

Scale and where to put it

At 11 inches tall this is a small lamp, and that is the point. On a bedside table it leaves room for a book and a glass of water. On a desk it sits below eye level so the glass is a warm object in the corner of your vision rather than a glare source.

Two of them work better than one in a bedroom, placed either side of a bed, because the shape is symmetrical and reads as a matched pair. On a sideboard or a long shelf, a single lamp at one end balances better than one placed centrally. Keep it clear of the very edge of a bedside table, since a glass lamp with a narrow base is the kind of thing a sleeve catches.

One specification to check before ordering

The supplier data is contradictory on power and it is worth flagging rather than glossing over. The specification lists a voltage of 220 to 240 volts and an E27 mains bulb socket, and separately lists the power source as USB charging. Those two things do not normally go together, since an E27 lamp of 11 to 15 watts is a mains fitting.

Our reading is that this is a mains lamp taking a standard E27 LED bulb, and that the USB reference is an error carried over from another product in the supplier range. Please confirm with us before ordering if you specifically need a USB or cordless version. The bulb is not included either way, and a warm 2700K LED suits the glass best.
