Handwoven Rattan Pendant Light with a Wide Bamboo Saucer Shade

How the Woven Bamboo Shade Casts Light

The strips are woven loosely rather than packed tight. Each gap lets a little light through. On a plain ceiling this shows as a soft ring of pattern around the fixture.

The 39.4 in shade is a statement piece. It needs a high ceiling and a wide room to sit properly. In a standard room it will crowd the space.

Over a kitchen island, hang two or three of the smaller shades in a row. Because the weave is open, they overlap without looking heavy.

Bulbs and Fitting for This Ceiling Light

The socket takes a standard E27 bulb. No bulb is included, so order one at the same time. An LED bulb runs cool, which suits a natural shade.

A warm white bulb reads best here. Cool white flattens the bamboo and makes the weave look grey rather than golden.

The fixture is hardwired to a ceiling point. There is no plug and no inline switch. It is for indoor use only, so keep it out of bathrooms and covered porches.

The shade is light for its size at 4.5 lb. A standard ceiling rose will carry it without extra support.

Bamboo takes on colour from the bulb behind it. A very cool bulb can make the strips look washed out, so stay in the warm range if you want the natural tone to hold.
