Gold Crystal Wall Sconce with a Slim Iron Arm

Most wall sconces are trying to be quiet. This one is not. The shade is a ring of cut crystal blocks, and cut crystal has one job: it catches light and gives it back in points. Switch it on and the wall around the fixture picks up small bright marks. Switch it off and the crystal still catches whatever daylight is in the room. It is a decorative light first and a working light second.

What Cut Crystal Does to a Small Bulb

The shade is built from solid crystal blocks set side by side in a ring. Each block is cut with a flat outer face and angled edges. Light from the bulb passes through the flat face and bends at the angles.

That bending is the whole point. A frosted shade spreads light evenly and looks calm. Crystal splits it into bright and dark bands, so the shade reads as sparkle rather than a glow. The wall behind picks up the pattern.

Because the blocks are solid, the shade is heavier than it looks and the bulb stays hidden behind them from most angles. You see light, not filament.

The Long Arm and Where It Suits

The arm runs from a round backplate down to a fine point. It is slim, and that contrast is what stops the crystal from looking heavy. The fixture reads tall and narrow on the wall.

It is 15 in high and reaches 8.5 in out. Fit it either side of a bed at about 60 in from the floor, or flanking a mirror in a hallway. In a dining room, a pair on the same wall works better than one on its own.

It is not a reading light. The crystal throws light sideways and up as much as down, so a page under it will be patchy. Use it for atmosphere and put a lamp where you actually read.

Bulbs, Finish and Wiring

The socket is E12 or E14, the small candle base rather than the standard screw. Use a clear candle bulb if you want the sharpest sparkle. A frosted one softens the whole effect and may suit a bedroom better. No bulb is supplied.

Keep the bulb dim, around 250 to 400 lumens. A bright bulb behind cut crystal is uncomfortable to sit next to. Warm white near 2700K suits the gold finish.

The frame is iron with a gold finish. It hardwires to a wall box behind the round backplate and is rated 110V-120V and 220V-240V. There is no plug and no cord.
