Art Deco Wall Sconce Shaped As A Ribbed Wing Moth
This wall sconce is a decorative object first and a light source second. Worth knowing before it arrives: in the product photography the finish reads as a metallic gold rather than a flat painted yellow. The supplier does not describe a metallic coating anywhere in the specification, so the images and the written specification do not fully agree on this point. Expect a warm gold tone and treat the exact level of sheen as unconfirmed.
The fixture measures 11 inches long, 5.6 inches wide and 2.75 inches deep, on a 4 inch round canopy. At 2.2 pounds it is the lightest fitting in this group, which is what resin buys you over cast metal.
Wiring, Voltage And Bulb
The sconce is hardwired and rated at 110 to 120 volts, which matches a standard United States circuit. It takes an E12 base bulb with a maximum of 25 watts. That ceiling is lower than most sconces in this range, so check the rating on any bulb you already own rather than assuming a 40 watt candelabra will do.
Bulbs are not included. The bulb sits behind the wings rather than inside a shade, so the fixture throws light onto the wall around it and reads as a glow behind the silhouette. It is an accent light, not a reading light, and a 25 watt ceiling confirms that.
Where To Put A Decorative Wall Light
A fixture with this much shape needs room around it. It works on a plain painted or papered wall where the silhouette is uninterrupted, above a console or a bar, or in a pair flanking a bed. It does not work squeezed between shelving or artwork, where the wings compete with everything else on the wall.
The photography places it against deep teal and emerald walls, and the warm gold finish does read strongly against dark colours. On a pale wall the contrast drops and the fixture reads more quietly, which may be what you want in a smaller room.
