Crystal on a light fitting is not really about the crystal. It is about what happens at the edges of a lit room, where a plain shade gives you one soft pool and nothing else. Faceted drops hung below the bulbs split that light into dozens of small bright points that shift as you move past them, so the wall stays interesting from across the room rather than only from directly in front of it.

Two Shade Options That Change the Whole Fixture

The pleated fabric shade is the more traditional of the two. It has a braided trim along the bottom edge, and because fabric blocks light at the sides it pushes most of the output up and down, leaving the crystals lit from above and the wall washed in a narrow band. That is the version that suits paneled walls, patterned wallpaper and rooms with heavy curtains.

The opal glass shade is smoother and rounder, and it glows across its whole surface rather than only at the openings. That makes the fixture read as a lamp from a distance instead of a piece of ornament, and it puts more light into the room overall. Between the two, fabric is the more decorative choice and glass the more practical one.

One Arm or Two, and Where Each One Belongs

The single arm version is the one to reach for when the wall is narrow or already busy. A pair of single sconces either side of a mirror, a bed or a fireplace is the classic arrangement, and it gives a symmetry that one wide fixture cannot. It is also the quieter option in a hallway, where a two arm sconce can crowd the passing space.

The two arm version puts the backplate at the center of a wider composition and carries roughly twice the crystal. It suits a broad stretch of wall, the head of a staircase or a dining room, and it works on its own rather than in a pair. In both versions the frame is offered in gold or silver, and the crystal drops are the same champagne toned faceted glass.

Bulbs, Wiring and Keeping the Crystals Clean

The sockets take E12 or E14 candle bulbs and no bulb is supplied, so you choose the output and the color temperature. A warm bulb is the natural fit here; cool white flattens the gold finish and takes the warmth out of the crystal. Candle shaped bulbs suit the fitting better than round ones because they sit further inside the shade.

The fixture is hardwired to a wall box rather than plugged in, so it needs a supply point at the mounting position and an electrician in most cases. It accepts both 110V-120V and 220V-240V. The crystals are the part that shows dust first, and they come up with a dry microfiber cloth; there is no need to take them off the frame.
