Adjustable Industrial Desk Lamp Metal Cone Shade Task Light

A desk lamp has one job that a general room light cannot do: put a controlled amount of light on a specific surface without lighting the whole room. Everything about a good task light follows from that. The shade needs to be opaque so the output is directional, the head needs to tilt so the beam can be aimed, and the base needs enough mass that adjusting it does not move the whole lamp.

The Tilting Head And The Base Switch

The shade tilts on a joint where it meets the arm, so the beam can be aimed down onto a desk, forward onto a book or up at the wall. The arm itself is a fixed curve rather than an articulated one, so the reach does not change: what moves is the angle of the light, not its position.

The switch is on the lamp base. That is a better arrangement than an inline cord switch for a desk or a nightstand, because the switch stays in a known place instead of disappearing behind the furniture. The cord is 60 inches, which is five feet and enough to reach a floor socket from most desktops without an extension.

Bulbs And Materials

The lamp takes an E26 medium base bulb rated up to 60 watts and no bulb is supplied. Because the metal shade is opaque and the light is directional, a frosted bulb is the sensible choice. A clear filament bulb will throw a visible bright spot onto whatever the shade is pointed at.

The specification lists the material as metal throughout and does not name a secondary material or a brass trim. In the photography there is a lighter toned collar visible where the shade meets the arm, which the specification does not account for. Treat the body as painted metal and the collar detail as shown in the images rather than as a specified finish.
