Double Glass Pendant Light Cloche Shade Inner Cylinder

Two layers of glass change what you see. Looking at the pendant you read the outer cloche first, then the inner cylinder through it, then the lamp inside that. The layers overlap and the tint doubles where they cross. It is a small trick but it gives the fixture depth that a single shade cannot. The inner cylinder also holds the lamp back from the edge, which softens the glare.

What the Second Layer of Glass Does

The outer cloche is the tall bell shaped piece. It is the outline you see from a distance.

The inner cylinder is shorter and sits inside it, holding the lamp.

Where the two overlap the tint reads darker. Where only one layer covers, it reads lighter.

That gives you a band of deeper colour around the middle of the shade.

It also puts the lamp further from the outer surface, which softens the bright spot.

Lit from below you see the filament through both layers.

Both pieces of glass are fixed, so nothing rattles or moves.

The inner cylinder is open at the bottom, so light falls straight down as well.

You get a downward pool plus a glow through the sides.

That balance is what makes it usable over a table and as a room light.

Amber or Grey

Amber is a warm honey tint. It makes the light look warmer than the lamp actually is.

It suits timber, brick and darker rooms.

Grey is a smoke tint and mutes the light rather than colouring it.

It reads cooler and quieter, and it suits a pale or a grey scheme.

Both use the same clear outer cloche, so the outline is identical.

Amber and grey are the same price, so this is purely a look decision.

Under a warm lamp, amber intensifies. Grey stays neutral.

Seen unlit in daylight, the tint is much subtler than it looks lit.

If in doubt, grey is the easier one to place in a mixed scheme.

Size, Cord and Hanging Several
